Mindful...

... when packing your backpack

Those who start their hike well-prepared can enjoy nature worry-free. Even if it seems obvious, it’s important to carefully consider what to bring on a hike. Good preparation increases safety and supports a respectful interaction with the environment. The golden rule: less is more. Only pack what you truly need – but make sure it’s the right things.

Checklist for a trip into nature or the mountains:

  • Weather-appropriate clothing and a change of clothes
  • Sturdy footwear and, if necessary, hiking poles
  • Toilet paper (tissues and wet wipes decompose very slowly)
  • Hiking map or GPS
  • Trash bag or small container for waste
  • Snacks and food
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Sun and/or rain protection
  • First-aid kit and blister plasters
  • Mobile phone with full battery (emergency number: 112)
  • Pocket knife
  • Cash (card payment is not always possible in remote areas)
